The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1999, dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.  It is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and works by endorsing national forest certification systems developed through multi-stakeholder processes and tailored to local priorities and conditions, including CSA and SFI.  The PEFC requirements that endorsed national forest certification systems must meet include sustainable forest management, standard setting, and certification and accreditation procedures, as well as chain of custody and logo use rules when adopted.
